Jump Start production subsidy next round

Metro Screen’s Jump Start Committee typically comprises representatives of the Metro Board, our Facilities Department and the independent production industry.

Applicants should be realistic about the amount of subsidy sought and note that the committee expects a cash contribution by all applicants unless extenuating financial circumstances exist.

GAIN FREE REGISTRATION TO DOME LAB

Screen Development Australia [SDA] of which Metro Screen is the NSW representative is offering a scholarship in the form of a free registration to attend DOME Lab 2010 in Perth [31st October to 5th Nov 2010]. The scholarship is valued at $1000. Early career screen practitioners who are members of one of the state based Screen Development Australia agencies which includes Film and Television Institute, Media Resource Centre, Metro Screen, Open Channel, Wide Angle Tasmania and Q-Pix can be considered for the scholarship. The process to apply for the scholarship is easy: the application/guidelines asks you to simply indicate whether you wish to be considered for this scholarship. The winner of the scholarship will still be required to fund their travel and accommodation. Deadline application is 5pm CST on Friday 3rd September.

'The Burnt Cork' has been launched online!!!

This Metro Screen First Break film is currently in pre-production and is due to be shot over three days in regional NSW in September 2010. The production has attracted some amazing cast and crew, in an eerily fantastic location.

Keep update with the film through their Facebook page and check out their Website and if you are feeling particularly philanthropic you can always donate your spare change to the production via the site- there are some great incentives for those that want to get involved!

WHATS IT ABOUT?
In 1950s rural Australia, Matthew and his wife live on a remote sheep station. Their quiet lives begin to unravel when it is discovered that Matthew has fathered a child to his wife’s Aboriginal housemaid. When a policeman arrives at the station, Matthew must choose between admitting he is the father and saving his child from being taken or remaining silent and saving his marriage.

Be one of ten finalists chosen to Pitch at the Metro Screen Pitching Competition on 28 Sep by applying today [deadline for submissions 09 Aug]. Prizes presented at this event are detailed below and include the winner taking home $3,500 worth of hire and post production services from Metro Screen, free SPAA Fringe Conference rego and mentoring from Metro Screen in preparation for the national pitching comp.

STEP 2
Represent Metro Screen and pitch with six fellow finalists at the SPAA Fringe Pitching Comp on Saturday 23rd October and win $1500 cash, plus move on to the final step…

STEP 3
Compete as one of only two finalists at the Holding Redlich Pitching Comp at SPAA Conference in mid November. The winner will receive an airfare to the Cannes Film Festival or a TV market in 2010/11 and a $1,500 cash prize plus free registration to SPAA 2011 Conference.

Introduction to Clay Animation

This course is an introduction to stop motion and clay animation. You will learn how to design a character and create a short animation storyboard then build a wire armature and sculpt your character out of clay. You will also learn how to set up a digital still camera, computer and lights to shoot stop-motion animation. Afterwards, you will learn how to assemble the frames into an animation sequence using After Effects software. Finally you will output your animation to DVD.

Rob has been making short films and writing scripts since his teenage years. He studied film and animation at the Queensland College of Art. After college he set up a production company in Brisbane, producing numerous live-action TV commercials and music videos. In the early 90’s Rob moved to Sydney and decided to specialise in animation. Rob made two stop-motion short films and then formed a boutique animation studio - Cycho, which produces claymation, stop-motion, mixed-media and 3D computer animation. Under Rob’s direction, Cycho have created numerous animated and live action television commercials, multi-media projects and short films, in Australia and overseas. Cycho clients have included Artline, Australian Red Cross, Fox Studios, Sony, HCF, JJJ Radio, McDonalds, Pepsi, Hungry Jacks and Roche, amongst many others.
